St. Jude invited Mommy and Me CF to their monthly craft night. The topic or subject was painting a peacock. This form of group support for cancer survivors and caretakers could not have come at a better time for both Jennifer and I. This week, we have been coordinating care for one of our newer Moms, Kesha. Kesha has taken a sudden sharp decline. We have been working closely to provide her with the support that her and her family needs including connecting her to American Cancer Society, purchasing books to help her daughter cope and understand, providing her family meals while they visit Kesha, providing music and flowers at her bedside, all this in hopes of keeping Kesha comfortable.
The 3 hours spent painting while amongst cancer survivors and care takers, helped to give us hope, to allow time to meditate and also reflect upon the events of the week. Jennifer had always had a love for painting, so she was excited and thrilled. For me, it was a relaxing 3 hours and a surprise of a lifetime when I had completed what looked to be a peacock...with way too many round circles. Regardless, we enjoyed it! It allowed us to take a step back and "take a deep breath." We hope to be back soon with more of our very own MAMCF Mommy Cancer Survivors.
